Navajo Nation Park & Recreation
We offer a variety of permits for both commercial and private visitors. If you would like to hike or camp in one of our Navajo Tribal Parks, you are required to purchase a Backcountry Permit. This allows you to stay within the Tribal Park locations for overnight and hike the location.
Do you need a permit to enter Monument Valley? ›
Permits are required for rafting the San Juan River which runs through the park, and backcountry hiking and camping. These can be purchased at the visitor center, which is located off Hwy. 163 on Monument Valley Road. Note that dogs are not allowed outside of vehicles in the park.
Can navajos own guns? ›
Navajo Tribal Code Title 17, Section 1451, prohibits the use of firearms. No firearms allowed on tribal lands.
Is alcohol allowed in Navajo Nation? ›
The use of » alcoholic beverages and firearms are both strictly prohibited on the Navajo Nation. As any tourist should, please be respectful when it comes to photography. Cameras are not always welcome, and you should secure permission before photographing, videotaping, sketching, or audiotape recording any event.

Fees: $8 per person per day. Children 7 and under are free. Visitor Center hours: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., year-round. Scenic Drive summer hours: 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Last vehicles are permitted onto the drive at 6 p.m. and must depart it by 8 p.m.
