According to each person’s aesthetic criteria and preferences, the answer to the question “What is the most beautiful street in the world?” can be very, very different. A study revealing the most attractive streets in the world will perhaps make some people see eye to eye… or not!
The most eye-catching streets, from San Francisco to Kyoto
To single out the most attractive streets in the world, the English estate agency Get Agent conducted a study using eye tracking software to determine the streets that most catch people’s attention. The methodology was simple: images of 50 streets considered to be picturesque from all over the world were presented to 40 participants. Eye tracking software then observed the movements of their eyes, how long their gaze remained on each image and the total number of glances, thus revealing the images most captivating to the eye.
The results? Extremely well-known streets such as the incredible Lombard Street in San Francisco stand out from the crowd, as well as more surprising and unfamiliar spots such as Herbert Baker Street, a residential street in the suburbs of Pretoria in South Africa. However, most of these thoroughfares have one thing in common: flowers, colour and a rather rustic air!
