How many days at Grand Canyon and Monument Valley?

I am taking a trip shortly to Grand Canyon and would like to visit Monument Valley. How many days would I need for each of them? I wonder if 2 full days at the Grand Canyon is too much, considering that my dad cannot do any hikes...
thanks for your tips!

If you are not hiking, then one full day at Grand Canyon is enough to stop at the best overlooks and enjoy the views. A half day at Monument Valley is enough. I recommend a tour with Simpson's Trail Handler Tours.

My wife and I spent 3 days at the south rim and did no hiking. We enjoyed it very much and had time to ride the shuttles to the various viewpoints along the rim. We could have used a couple more days.

If you don't plan to go below the rim at the Canyon, then one full day (sunrise and sunset) should be sufficient. That said, I honestly suggest -- *IF* this would not cause a family rupture -- that you leave Dad at the top on the second day, and take a hike down the Bright Angel on your own, just to experience what the Canyon is really like.

It takes half a day to drive each way between Grand Canyon and Monument Valley, and about a half day to take a tour -- the guided tours are longer.

Thanks so much to everybody!

There is so much to see and so little time...I didn't include in my plan a visit to Lake Powell. So I was thinking before getting to Monument Valley to visit the Lake and take a boat tour for a couple of hours... For that, I was thinking of staying only one night at the Grand Canyon (we had originally booked two nights).

I will leave my dad for a few hours and will take a hike down the Bright Angel!

Thanks again!
