A Look at My Travel Bucket List 2023 Edition (2024)

If you have been following my blog for a while, you know that I have an annual tradition of updating my travel bucket list. In this article, I will outline my travel bucket list for 2023. It has been over a year since I have updated my bucket list and a lot has changed since then.

I recently returned from a trip to Africa, where I got to cross some very big destinations off my bucket list. My travel priorities have also shifted as I have learned about new and exciting destinations over the past year. While some of the items on my list have remained as long-time goals, other destinations are new to me. Not only that, but I am on the verge of crossing off some very big travel goals again this year!

As much as this is an exercise for me to organize my travel goals and aspirations, I hope it provides value to you in the form of inspiration as well. Some of the destinations that I have explored in this world I learned about from your feedback. Hopefully some of my travels and travel goals inspire you in return!

My Current Travel Bucket List

Now that I have shared my travel bucket lists from previous years, I would like to share my current travel bucket list for 2023 with you. As you will see, some of the destinations on this list are long-time travel targets. Meanwhile, other items on this list are new to my bucket list. And of course, with my upcoming trip to Southeast Asia this fall, a few of these destinations will get crossed off the list this year.

Antarctica

The first destination on my travel bucket list for 2023 is a destination that has always been on my list. I would say that visiting Antarctica is the number one destination on my wish list, and it has been for some time. Part of the allure of visiting for me is that Antarctica is so difficult to get to.

Therefore, it is a place that fewer travelers have been to. There is something exciting to me about that. Also, it is one of the world’s most breathtakingly beautiful places. It is also one of the world’s top wildlife destinations. So, it is just the type of destination that I love.

Siem Reap, Cambodia

The next destination on my travel bucket list for 2023 is a destination that I will get to cross off my list this year. Visiting Siem Reap in Cambodia and seeing the legendary Angkor Wat temple has long been a dream of mine. It is a destination that has been on and off the top of my bucket list for as far back as I can remember. This year, I will finally get to cross this incredible destination off my list.

phu*ket, Thailand

Another destination that I will get to cross off my travel bucket list this year is the amazing island of phu*ket in Thailand. phu*ket and the Phi Phi Islands have long been destinations I have dreamed of visiting. In addition to having some of the world’s most beautiful coastline, the waters off the coast of the islands are also great for snorkeling and scuba diving. To say I am excited to visit this autumn would be a huge understatement.

Hiking in Norway

For those who follow my blog closely, you know how much of a hiking enthusiast I am. I will plan entire trips that center around a single hike that I want to do. One of the locations that I desperately want to visit in the foreseeable future to do some hiking is Norway.

There is a lot that I want to see and do in Norway, but I especially want to do one hike in particular. I have long wanted to hike to Preikestolen (also known as Pulpit Rock). This has to be one of the most breathtaking viewpoints and one of the most stunning hikes in the world. And I am determined to see it in the near future.

Petra, Jordan

Another destination that I have longed to visit for quite some time is the incredible monument of Petra in Jordan. I was all set to visit Jordan a few years back, then the COVID-19 pandemic hit, and my plans got blown apart. We pushed back the trip a few times, only to have to reschedule again-and-again, before switching our travel plans to South Africa.

I am so glad we got to visit South Africa, Botswana, and Zimbabwe last year, but I still long to visit Petra. This will have to remain a wish list item for now, but I have high hopes of crossing it off my list in the very near future.

Cairo, Egypt

Another destination on my travel bucket list for 2023 that should have already been crossed off my list, had it not been for the COVID pandemic, is the incredible city of Cairo, Egypt. We were supposed to visit Cairo on the same trip that we had booked to see Petra but had to ultimately cancel. In addition to seeing the Great Pyramids in nearby Giza, I long to see the incredible architecture, markets, and museums in Cairo.

Torres del Paine, Patagonia

Like Antarctica, the Patagonia region of South America is another iconic destination that I have dreamed of visiting since I was young. And like Antarctica, visiting Patagonia is something that will have to remain on my wish list for now.

When I do visit, I want to thoroughly explore the area. Not only do I want to visit both the Chilean and Argentinian Patagonia regions, but I’d love to do a lot of hiking there. In particular, I really want to visit the iconic Torres del Paine National Park in Chile. To me, it is one of the most beautiful spots in the world.

Uganda

If there is one area of the world that I simply cannot get enough of, it is Africa. Ever since I visited Tanzania in 2017, I have been absolutely mesmerized by the continent. The wildlife, the landscapes, the cultures, the people are all so incredible.

After visiting South Africa, Botswana, and Zimbabwe this past year, I have grown even more in love with Africa. I also discovered a new destination that has skyrocketed into the top of my travel bucket list for 2023. That would be the gorgeous country of Uganda.

Not only do I want to visit to see the mountain gorillas and chimpanzees, but I also want to visit the famed Murchison Falls National Park. In addition to being one of the world’s most beautiful waterfalls, it is also home to one of the largest concentrations of large Nile crocodiles. That fascinates me.

Brazil

After having visited Peru and Ecuador in 2018, I haven’t been back to the incredible continent of South America. In addition to the Patagonia region, another area of the continent that I really want to explore is the Amazon Rainforest. In particular, I would love to visit Brazil to see its incredible rainforest and visit Rio de Janeiro. Not only are the city’s beaches incredible, but I would love to see Christ the Redeemer in person. Not only that, but the adventure traveler in me would love to paraglide in Rio.

Croatia

The final destination on my travel bucket list for 2023 is the amazing country of Croatia. There are a lot of incredible things that I want to see in the country. For starters, it has some of the world’s most iconic national parklands. Parks like Krka National Park and Plitvice Lakes National Park are absolutely breathtaking.

Not only that, but the renowned Dalmatian Coast is one of the world’s most breathtaking stretches of coastline. With so many incredible things to explore in Croatia, it is a destination that is quickly crawling to the top of my bucket list.
